Step 1. Choose your tea base
The foundation of winter tea is a good base. Depending on your mood and the time of day, you can choose different types of tea.
Stassen Vanilla Rooibos Tea
A perfect evening option. Rooibos is theine-free, has a mild, naturally sweet character, and pairs beautifully with spices. Vanilla lends the infusion a soft, dessert-like feel.
Basilur Caramel Dream
A black tea with a caramel aroma. Perfect for when you crave something bolder and warmer. It pairs well with cinnamon, cloves, and orange peel.
Basilur Persian Earl Grey
Classic black tea with bergamot in an elegant twist. Citrus notes blend naturally with spices and honey to create a winter version of Earl Grey.
Choose one tea as your base. One envelope or about one teaspoon of loose-leaf tea is enough for one cup.
Step 2. Prepare the spices
Spices are the heart of winter tea. You don't have to use all of them at once. Often, simpler combinations taste best.
The most frequently chosen spices for winter infusions:
- cinnamon sticks
- cloves
- star anise
- cardamom
- dried or fresh ginger
- orange or lemon peel
In the tea shop you will find ready-made spices ideal for infusions, which help maintain a balance between taste and aroma.
For one cup you need:
- one small cinnamon stick or half a teaspoon of ground cinnamon
- two or three cloves
- a small piece of citrus peel
Step 3. Heat the water to the appropriate temperature
Water temperature is very important, especially for black teas.
-
rooibos and black tea: about 95 degrees
If you don't have a thermometer, wait about 30 seconds after the water boils. Water that's too hot can muddle the flavors, while water that's too cold will make the infusion less intense.
Step 4. Brew the spice tea
You have two proven ways to prepare winter tea.
Method one: Putting it all together
Put the tea and spices in a cup or jug, then pour hot water over it.
- rooibos: 5–7 minutes
- black tea: 3–4 minutes
This method produces an intense, full aroma.
Method two: Spice infusion separately
First, pour hot water over the spices and steep for about 5 minutes. Then add the tea and steep according to the instructions. This method allows for better flavor control and is especially effective with stronger spices like cloves.
Step 5. Add toppings at the end
It is best to add additives after brewing the tea, when the infusion has the appropriate intensity.
Proven suggestions:
- honey or maple syrup
- a slice of orange or lemon
- a dash of raspberry juice
- a drop of natural vanilla extract
Honey goes well with Basilur Caramel Dream.
Lemon with a bit of honey is perfect for Persian Earl Grey.
For Vanilla Rooibos, vanilla and cinnamon alone are often enough.

Step 6. Serve and enjoy the ritual
Winter tea is best enjoyed in a quiet atmosphere. Serve it in your favorite cup, adding a citrus slice or cinnamon stick for garnish. These are the small details that build the entire tea-drinking ritual.
